Camas

Camas lies near Washougal along the Columba River. In 2012, about 19,400 lived in Camas and about 14,000 called Washougal home.

Camas was named after a plant prized as an important food source by the Native Americans The largest Camas employer for many years was the Georgia-Pacific paper mill. Once a source of strong odors, scrubbers reduced the malodorous fumes to almost nothing. Lovely communities perch on the side of Prune Hill with spectacular views of the Columbia River and Gorge and surround beautiful Lacamas Lake.
